Michelangelo Merisi o Amerighi da Caravaggio, being one of the great masters, was well known for his chiaroscuro, dramatic subject matter, and excellent compositions. And with a long name like that, I can see why he is known for his last name alone. It’s easy to enjoy this piece even if you aren’t familiar with the “Sacrifice of Isaac”, where Abraham is about to sacrifice his son in fear of God, but is stopped by an angel and offered a ram to sacrifice instead. Seems like a fair trade…though PETA might not agree. Let’s see how he uses design techniques to bring power to his painting and clearly communicate the story to his viewer.
