Henri Cartier-Bresson Using the Grid
Do you think a master of photography would be using the rule of thirds? Give me a break! One look at his images and you will see a difference between a rule of thirds image and a designed image. Henri Cartier-Bresson was a master at composition and he incorporated design and geometry into all of his photographs. He didn’t use the rule of thirds like this BLOG claims. Take a look at the 1.5 grid he uses to compose most of his shots. He either lines them up on the major diagonal, the reciprocal, or both. That’s the difference between the rule of thirds and the basic armature of the 1.5 rectangle…the diagonals. It’s a simple concept to grasp, and introduces more visual dynamics.
