Yes, that’s right, follow the rule of thirds. It’s simple, it’s easy to comprehend, it’s magical to some, and many artists use it to position their sailboats and lighthouses. If you are looking for all of these things, as well as mediocre compositions, be my guest. Some of you out there may be content with your artistic progress. You may not have time or even want to consider learning any new techniques. Heck, maybe you are already a successful artist, making money, and selling your lackluster pieces to the masses. This is perfectly fine. There’s a place for everyone from Bougureau, to a paint-by-numbers-6th-grader. What end of the spectrum would you like to see yourself in?
