Painting by Bouguereau displaying the Law of Similarity.

56/365

With the Law of Similarity we will perceptually group objects together when they are similar, which can be in terms of shape, color, shading or any other quality. In Bouguereau’s amazing painting above, we see the wave of nymphs as one unit. With further observation we begin to see the individual details of each nymph….tall, skinny, blonde, brunette. And since the Satyr’s are not similar to the nymphs, they are seen as their own separate group.
