Today we have a first analyzed painting of Jan Brueghel the Elder. This one is called “Air” and is part of a series. Jan is the son of master painter Pieter Bruegel the Elder, and Father of Jan Brueghel the Younger. I’m not sure why they adopted an extra “H” in their name, but I guess that doesn’t matter because they all kept the same artistic skills in the family. In fact, they all have similar styles…very complex compositions with plenty of different elements to design. Let’s see how this master painter uses design techniques to organize the various elements in this excellent painting.
